Mohammad Khatami

Iranian politician, theologian, and scholar who served from 1997-2005 as President of Iran. Previously, he had held office as Iranian Minister of Culture.
He studied at Isfahan University and Tehran University and later served in the Iranian Parliament.
A Shiite Muslim theologian and political reformer, he proposed a "Dialogue Among Civilizations" -- an idea that the United Nations quickly embraced.
With his wife, Zohreh Sadeghi, he raised three children.
He and Mohammad Reza Shah were both leaders of Iran.
