Miriam Fried
Violinist
Romanian-Israeli violinist and music teacher known for her recordings of the works of Bach and Sibelius. She taught violin at the Steans Institute for Young Artists, the New England Conservatory, and Indiana University.
The daughter of a music teacher, she began learning to play the piano at a young age. It wasn't long, however, before she expressed her preference for the violin.
Her concert violin of choice was a Stradivarius made in 1718 and once owned by renowned violinists Regina Strinasacchi and Louis Spohr.
She married fellow violinist Paul Biss. The couple's sons, Jonathan and Daniel, pursued respective careers in classical music and American politics.
She premiered a violin concerto written for her by composer Donald Erb.
