Singer and actress whose status as an Israeli Palestinian has made her a unique and sometimes controversial figure in the Middle East. In 2009, she received the Haviva Reik Peace Prize for her promotion of an ongoing dialogue between Arabs and Jews.
She joined the band Samana at age 16. She was a student at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music before receiving a scholarship to attend the Body Theatre School.
In 2009, she became the first Arab Israeli ever to represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest, performing the song "There Must Be Another Way."
Her father Anwar is a physician from Galilee. She has siblings named Alan and Sinan.
She sang "There Must Be Another Way" as a duet with Israeli singer Achinoam Nini at Eurovision.
