Horse jockey known as one of the most successful riders of the modern era, earning multiple victories at races like the Breeders Cup Classic and Belmont Stakes. He is a member of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame and the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Mike Venezia Memorial Award.
He was born in Roswell, New Mexico and won his first major race in 1990 at the Manhattan Handicap.
He set a record for having won the greatest number of Breeders' Cup races of any jockey in the sport.
His father was also a jockey.
He and Jerry D. Bailey are both multiple-time winners of the Belmont Stakes.
