Chairman and president of The Recording Academy. He worked with Frank Sinatra, John Lennon, and The Beach Boys.
He was an English major at Dartmouth College from which he graduated in 1959.
His number All or Nothing At All from his album It's Always You earned him a 2003 Grammy Award nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo.
He fathered Wendy of the their music duo Wendy & Lisa.
He was a performer on Tom Waits' first live album Nighthawks at the Diner from 1975.
