War Hero
First female Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army Reserve. Her military career began in 1982 and involved domestic assignments related to Desert Shield, Desert Storm, the Kosovo War, and the War on Terrorism.
She graduated from Fayetteville State University with an honors degree in business administration. For a time, she was a cheerleader for the Baltimore Colts professional football team.
Following her 2007 retirement from the military, she served as Special Assistant to U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
She was born and raised in a suburb of Baltimore, Maryland. She was married for a time and raised two children.
She campaigned for Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential race.
