Highly decorated U.S. WWII hero who later became an action movie star. He was decorated with three Purple Hearts, two Silver Stars, an Expert Badge with Boyonet, and the Medal of Honor - every honor available from the U.S. Army.
He left school in fifth grade and began working on a farm to support his family.
He became their through an article in LIFE magazine and won 33 medals from the military.
He was married three times. He had two sons with his third wife, Pamela Archer.
He starred in the film, To Hell and Back, which featured a soundtrack written by Henry Mancini.
