Three-time All-Pro nose tackle and Olympic track and field athlete who won three Super Bowls as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. At the 1984 Summer Olympics, he won a silver medal in the shot put representing the United States.
He attended Jefferson High School in Dallas, Texas, where he broke the American high school record in the twelve-pound shot put by more than nine feet in 1979.
He is the first athlete to win a Super Bowl ring and an Olympic medal in the same year.
He has been married and has three children, one of whom is Olympic shot putter Michelle Carter.
He won three Super Bowls playing under Hall of Fame head coach Bill Walsh.
