NHL left wing who was picked 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Draft. He quickly became one of Montreal's top offensive weapons and team captain. He represented the USA at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
He played college hockey at the University of Michigan and made his NHL debut in early 2009, scoring a goal against the New Jersey Devils.
In 2011 he took a devastating hit from Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara that left one of his vertebra fractured; the NHL ruled nothing more than a five-minute penalty was warranted, though fans and sponsors felt otherwise.
He married the Russian tennis player Katia Afinogenova in 2011.
He became teammates with defender PK Subban on the Canadiens in 2009.
