Maurice Andre
Trumpet Player
Known for his recordings of Baroque music performed on a piccolo trumpet, as well as transcriptions of a wide variety of other instruments.
He joined the military as a trumpeter; in 1955 he won the Geneva International Music Competition and then the ARD International Music Competition in 1963.
One of his students wrote his biography, titled Maurice André: Une trompette pour la renommée, or Maurice André: A Trumpet for Fame.
He raised three children with his wife; his sons played trumpet and his daughter played oboe.
André studied Jean-Baptiste Arban's intheir trumpet book, as did Harry James.
