He toiled in obscurity in the minor leagues for seven years before getting his shot in the majors.
On April 15, 2005 he threw out each of the three Washington Nationals' runners who tried to steal a base during a single game.
He married beach volleyball star Misty May in 2004. They had a daughter named Malia in 2014 and welcomed twin girls, Mia and Mele, in 2017.
He was teammates with Matt Kemp on the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.
