He was born Mason Drell Betha. He had a rough upbringing, with eight of his ten childhood friends getting murdered and the other two ending up in prison.
He was a rapper with the stagename Ma$e before he became a motivational speaker.
He married Twyla Betha in August 2001. They had one child together before separating in 2012 and divorcing in 2014.
He was signed under Sean Diddy Combs' label.
