Marion Brown
Saxophonist
Celebrated ethnomusicologist and avant-garde jazz saxophonist who played on Ascension, John Coltrane's monumental 1965 release.
He attended Clark College for music and Howard University for prelaw before moving to New York.
He taught at a variety of schools, including public New Haven child study centers and Wesleyan University.
He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.
Brown and Amiri Baraka were close friends and active members of the New York art scene in the 1960s.
