Manabendra Nath Roy
Civil Rights Leader
Indian national revolutionary who founded communist parties in Mexico and India, and helped to form the Radical Democratic Party.
He became swept up in the nationalist movement in Bengal after reading the works of Vivekananda and Bankim.
He was arrested in Bombay in 1931 for conspiring to revoke the King Emperor's sovereignty in India.
His grandfather was a priest in the village of Ksheput.
Both he and Chittaranjan Das were key members of the Indian independence movement.
