Versatile artist known for her work on Ratcatcher from 1999, Morvern Callar from 2002, and We Need to Talk about Kevin from 2011.
She attended the National Film and Television School in the U.K. from which she graduated in 1995 and was a student of photography at Napier College, Edinburgh.
She joined the main competition jury at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in April 2013.
She and Rory Stewart Kinnear were married in March 2002.
She lost the job of directing The Lovely Bones to Peter Jackson who didn't have any better luck with the project than she had had.
