Lydia Taft
Activist
Secured a place in the history books by becoming the first woman to ever legally vote in America, paving the way for early women's suffrage. The nature of the vote had to do with landowner and taxpayer status of her late husband's estate.
She married her husband Josiah Taft, a Lieutenant and later Captain in the French and Indian War, in 1731. The vote occurred in 1756.
The 146A route in Massachusetts that leads to Rhode Island is named on her behalf.
With Josiah she gave birth to eight children named Josiah, Ebenezer, Caleb, Asahel, Joel, Joel, Bazaleel, and Chloe.
Emma Miller was a women's suffrage advocate while Taft was a suffrage pioneer.
