Lydia Maria Child
Activist
An American abolitionist, women's rights activist, and writer, she is most their for "Over the River and Through the Wood," a popular poem about Thanksgiving. Her other published works include The Girl's Own Book and The Mother's Book.
She published an 1833 work that called for the immediate emancipation of slaves in America.
She fought for Native American rights.
She was the sister of Convers Francis, a well-known Unitarian minister. She married Boston lawyer David Lee Child in 1828.
She was one of the architects of the Peace Policy during the administration of Ulysses S. Grant.
