Though she also appeared on the NBC variety program The Flip Wilson Show, this African-American television actress is most notable for playing the role of Susan Robinson on the long-running PBS children's series Sesame Street.
Before being cast in Sesame Street, she worked as a substitute teacher in New York City. Around this time, she also received a doctorate in Urban Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
She was featured on a Grammy-nominated children's recording titled "Susan Sings Songs from Sesame Street."
She was born and raised in Paw Paw, Michigan.
She and Bob McGrath were both in the original cast of Sesame Street.
