One of Estonia's foremost artists, he also specialized in architecture, art theory, and literature. He often incorporated the codes of Russian avant-garde in his work.
He studied architecture at the University of Tartu. His themes revolved around the relationship between nature, machine, and man, and he was skilled in using void, the language of signs, and visual processes in his work.
He was inspired by Andy Warhol and began experimenting with pop art during the 1960s.
He was born and raised in Rapina, Estonia.
He and poet Viivi Luik were born in the same country.
