Award-winning African-American artist, filmmaker, and scholar who became known for his racial and sexual identity-themed works.
He received his Ph.D. in African-American Studies from Northwestern University. During his time at Northwestern, he began work on "STILL BLACK: a Portrait of Black Transmen," his award-winning film project.
He created blac (k) ademic, a popular blog that covered issues of feminism and queer and racial identity. He won the Outstanding Transgender Service, Esteem Award in 2013.
He was born in Southern California and received his B.A. in Film and Digital Media from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His open homosexual viewpoint and honesty helped many.
He served as a teaching assistant for a 2007 course at Northwestern University called The Cinema of Spike Lee.
