Acclaimed musician whose teaching career influenced many notable Russian pianists, including Natalia Satina, Sergei Rachmaninoff's wife.
He was a student at the Moscow Conservatory where he studied with famed pianists Alexander Siloti and Pavel Pabst.
He was appointed a professor at the Moscow Conservatory in 1899, where he remained for the rest of his career.
His talents were recognized by his family while he was still a young man, and he began studies with the revered teacher of Rachmaninoff, Nikolai Zverev.
He was honored with the Order of Lenin, the Soviet Union's highest decoration, which was named after Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
