Coached the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team to dominance from 1918 to 1930.
He worked as a mail dispatcher for almost four years.
Originally trained as a Chemist at Notre Dame, he eventually became a sports coach there.
He married Bonnie Skiles in 1914.
He was a football player and coach and President Herbert Hoover called his death a national loss.
