Football coach who served as defensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2009 to 2012 and for the Buffalo Bills in 2013; named head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2014.
He was an All-State quarterback and defensive back while playing high school football at Central Bucks West, then went on to play free safety at the University of Virginia.
In 2002, he earned his first job with the NFL as a coaching assistant for the Baltimore Ravens; he then served as assistant defensive line coach and outside linebackers coach for the team before becoming defensive coordinator for the Jets.
His father Mike Pettine Sr. was his head coach in high school at Central Bucks West; before his foray into the NFL, Mike Jr. worked as an assistant for his father and then went on to coach North Penn High School, a rival of Central Bucks West, from 1997 to 2001.
He entered the New York Jets' organization in 2009 along with new head coach Rex Ryan, and together, Pettine and Ryan helped create one of the NFL's top defenses for the next few seasons.
