Kirsten Gillibrand

Democrat politician who became a US Senator from New York when Hillary Clinton vacated her seat to become Secretary of State in 2009. She was also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's 20th district from 2007 to 2009.
She attended Dartmouth College where she majored in Asian Studies, studying in both Beijing and Taiwan, and graduated magna cum laude in 1988.
She played an active role in repealing the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy while in the Senate.
She married Jonathan Gillibrand in 2001 and had two sons, Theodore and Henry, by him.
She was preceded by Hillary Clinton as Senator from New York.
