In 2013, he began starring as Frank Underwood on the Netflix series House of Cards. The role earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2015.
While attending Juilliard School of Drama, he performed stand-up comedy at local bowling alley talent contests.
In 1991, he received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role as Uncle Louie in Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers.
