English striker who served as captain of the Bolton Wanderers before joining Preston North End in 2013; made one appearance for the English national team in 2010.
He was originally scouted for his athleticism and intelligence for the game and developed his trademark aggressive style later.
He debuted professionally for Chesterfield in 1993 and went on to appear in 129 games for the team over four seasons, netting 22 goals.
His half brother, Jamie Jackson, was also a striker who played with the Chesterfield club.
He played his first international game at 33 as a substitution for Peter Crouch.
