Former striker who was named Swiss Player of the Year in 2007 and scored 42 goals in 86 appearances for the Swiss national team from 2001 to 2011. He starred for Rennes from 2003 to 2006, then spent three years with Borussia Dortmund before finishing his career with FC Basel from 2009 to 2013.
He grew up in Basel, Switzerland and debuted professionally for FC Basel in 1997.
He helped Servette win the Swiss Cup in 2001 and was the Ligue 1 top scorer in 2005 with 20 goals.
He raised a daughter with his wife Nina.
He was coached by Jurgen Klopp on Borussia Dortmund from 2008 to 2009.
