Kadri Gopalnath
Saxophonist
Carnatic music pioneer and award-winning saxophonist. He was awarded the Padma Shri, a high civilian award, in 2004.
After hearing someone play the saxophone in the Mysore Palace band, he picked up the instrument with the intention of mastering it.
He was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University.
He was born and raised in the city of Mangalore, where he acquired his musical tastes.
Both Gopalnath and Chen Jiafeng were invited to perform on the BBC Promenade concert series.
