Joseph Wright
Painter
English painter who worked on landscapes and portraits and was described as the "first professional painter to express the spirit of the Industrial Revolution".
He studied for two years in London under Thomas Hudson and worked as his assistant in 1751.
He was a frequent contributor to the Society of Artists exhibitions and was elected an associate at the Royal Academy in 1781.
He married Anne Swift in July 1773, and they had six children.
He was treated by Dr. Erasmus Darwin for his asthma in the late 1700s.
