Joseph Reed
Lawyer
American lawyer and military officer who served in the Revolutionary War. He was also a delegate to the Continental Congress and signed the Articles of Confederation.
He studied at the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) and received his Bachelor's degree in 1757 before moving to England to study law.
He served in Congress in 1788, while he was also serving as Governor of Pennsylvania.
He married Esther de Berdt, with whom he had five children.
He was personally recruited for the Revolutionary War by George Washington who he served as his secretary and aide-de-camp.
