Lily Mazahery
Lawyer
Known for founding both the Legal Rights Institute and the Mazahery Law Firm, this controversial Iranian American former attorney and activist fought for human rights in Iran and North Africa and worked primarily in the field of immigration law.
She earned her J.D. in the late 1990s.
In 2013, the Board of Professional Responsibility, citing Mazahery's dishonest representation of clients and inadequate management of funds, asked Washington D.C.'s Court of Appeals to disbar the Iranian lawyer.
She was born in Tehran, Iran, and she later settled in Washington D.C., U.S.A.
She and Turkish journalist Cenk Uygur both worked for law firms in Washington D.C.
