Downhill skier who won a gold medal at the 1978 World Championships in West Germany. He earned a total of five World Cup victories and thirteen podium finishes before his retirement.
He debuted at the World Cup in 1973 when he was just 18 years old, finishing in 28th place overall.
His lone Olympic appearances came in 1976 and 1980.
He tragically died while racing in a benefit in his hometown of Schladming, Austria.
He competed at the 1980 Olympics, where American speed skater Eric Heiden took home an amazing 5 gold medals.
