Argentine former footballer best known for scoring the tournament-winning goal in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also won the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup in 1984 while playing for Independiente.
He was born in Gualeguay and started playing youth soccer for Arsenal de Sarandi in 1980.
He was suspended for six months after it was revealed that he conspired to throw a match against Olympique de Marseille in 1993.
He married Laura Mendoza in 1995. He has children named Mauro, Daiana and Alexia.
He and team captain Diego Maradona won the World Cup for Argentina in 1986.
