Rhythm and blues singer/songwriter who rose to fame as a member of The Drifters. With the band, he is known for a number of hit singles including "Saturday Night At The Movies," "Come On Over To My Place," and "At The Club."
He was drafted into the US Army in his youth.
In 1988, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He was from Alabama.
Both he and Bill Pinkney were members of The Drifters.
