Portrayed the role of Inspector John in the police procedural show, The Sweeney alongside Dennis Waterman. He can also be seen in Home to Roost, Inspector Morse, and Kavanagh QC.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art when he was 16 and shortly after made his theater debut in A Shred of Evidence at the Liverpool Playhouse.
He portrayed the leading role of Sergeant John Mann in the TV series, Redcap.
He married twice; his second marriage was to actress, Sheila Hancock in 1973.
He played the role of Fred Karno in the biographical film, Chaplin with Dan Aykroyd.
