He got his start in the music industry as the leader of the band Johnny and the G-Men in the 60's.
The Guinness Book of Records named his 1971 song "He's Gonna Step On You Again" the first song ever to use a sample.
His four sons, named Jesse, Johnny, Daniel and Dylan, formed a rock band together called Kongos.
His 1975 song "Ride the Lightning" was covered by singer Sylvie Vartan.
