Presbyterian minister who founded the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the world's first air ambulance.
He began his ministerial studies in 1909, and he served in missions in the Australian outback where he established several bush hospitals.
He was introduced to the possibility of using airplanes for medical service by a pilot, and he helped establish what became in 1934 the Australian Aerial Medical Service.
In 1951, he married Jean Baird. His mother died in childbirth, and he was raised by his relatives.
His mission was similar to Gabi Hollows who worked in the rural parts of Australia to help provide medical services for the natives.
