British sculptor and draughtsman who was a leading figure in British and European Neoclassicism. He sculpted the Memorial at Badger, Shropshire.
He worked as a modeller for Josiah Wedgwood's pottery and then spent several years in Rome.
He began his career sculpting grave monuments.
He married Anne Denman in 1782.
His sculptures and Gavin Bryars' music have both been classified as neoclassicism.
