Joan Mitchell

Abstract expressionist artist associated with the New York School and known for her series of "Between" paintings.
She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before moving to New York.
Her work was exhibited at New York's Museum of Modern Art.
She married Barney Rosset in 1949 and later had an intense relationship with Jean-Paul Riopelle.
She and Willem de Kooning both exhibited their work at the 1951 Ninth Street Show.
