He was born in Chicago and was trained by Canadian Lightweight Champion Harry Gilmore.
He is intheir for his knockout of Walter Walter Croot, who died after sustaining significant brain damage when his head hit the floor.
His brother, Dave Barry, was a their boxer and referee.
He and 21-time WBC Minimumweight Champion Ricardo Lopez both retired with undefeated records.
