He was born in Baghdad and earned a degree in Commerce from the University of Birmingham in England.
He was a finalist in the 2005 Smart Business Chicago Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
He has been married and has four children.
He and German physicist Ernst Ruska both worked for Siemens.
