Light welterweight and welterweight two-weight world champion in both divisions. He won the WBA and IBO super lightweight titles in 2014, and the WBO welterweight title two years later in 2016.
He amassed an amateur record of 120-20. He competed as a member of the 2008 Mexican Olympic boxing team.
He won 26 straight professional bouts before losing his 27th to fellow American Timothy Bradley.
He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
He lost his second ever professional bout, and the WBO welterweight title, in October 2016 to Manny Pacquiao.
