Aviatrix who co-piloted the Rutan Voyager to the first around-the-world nonstop, non-refueled flight.
She developed an interest in helicopters, which inspired her to learn how to pilot one.
She had a chance meeting with Dick Rutan, after which they fell in love. She then quit her job to help him and his brother develop their aircraft.
She was briefly married to a police officer when she was 19, but divorced him after two years.
She was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Ronald Reagan in 1986.
