Aviator and sportswoman who made some of the first balloon ascents and fixed wing flights in French history.
She was barred from participating in the Tour de France. However, when the event was over, she rode the course solo to prove that she could complete the race.
She was a world-class mountain climber who scaled many of the tallest peaks in the Swiss Alps.
Her father, Felix, encouraged her to participate in a wide variety of sports.
She and Helene Dutrieu were fellow European pilots.
