Singer and actress who was involved with the USO and who was the subject of the 1952 film With a Song in My Heart.
She had classical voice training but was more drawn to popular music; her stutter was a childhood struggle, but it disappeared when she sang.
She was in the films Kissing Time, Stars Over Broadway, and Radio City Revels.
She married Donald McKaig Ross in 1933, then John Curtis Burn in 1948, and finally Rowland H. Smith on June 20, 1962.
Her music was heavily influenced by the work of Cole Porter.
