Though successful on mainstream news outlets, she also had an award-winning blog, The Beautiful Struggler.
She has won three Black Weblog Awards and made television appearances on CNN, MSNBC, and NPR.
Her father, David, was a member of the Black Panther Party. She has a daughter, Naima Freedom Lemieux-Giles.
She penned the foreword to the 2015 rerelease of Black Macho and the Myth of the Superwoman by Michele Wallace.
