Speed skater who won two medals at the 2010 Olympics: a silver in the 10,000 meter event, and a bronze in the 5,000 meter event.
He was a very successful youth racer, and made his Olympic debut in 2006.
He won a gold medal at the 2011 World Allround Championships.
He was born in Khabarovsk, Russia.
From 2007-2013, he was the only person other than Sven Kramer to win the World Allround Championship.
