She competed in her first big competition at the 1990 European Athletics Championships and first Olympics in 1992 at Barcelona.
She won her first Olympic medal at the 2000 games.
She married hammer thrower Igor Astapkovich in 1992.
She competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics where runner Marion Jones also competed and took home the gold.
