She moved to the U.S. after being discovered by a photographer at age 20.
She is also an author of two books, 2001's I Am Iman and 2005's The Beauty of Color.
She married her third husband, David Bowie, in 1992. They remained married until his death in 2016. She has two daughters named Alexandria and Zulekha.
She was a favorite model of the late fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent.
