His youth career began in 1994 with ASV Chatenay-Malabry.
Prior to joining France's senior team, he played for their international youth teams.
His father Kamel Ben Arfa used to play soccer internationally for Tunisia.
He played alongside striker Karim Benzema at Lyon.
